Der Streit in den USA über die Evolutionstheorie beschäftigt zur Zeit ein Gericht in Pennsylvania. Acht Familien haben die Schulbehörde wegen der gängigen Unterrichtspraxis geklagt. Der Grund: Ihren Kindern wird vor der Vermittlung der Darwinschen Evolutionstheorie erklärt, dass eine höhere Macht das Leben auf der Erde geschaffen habe. Die Eltern sehen darin einen Verstoß der Trennung von Kirche und Staat.

As my current workstation only supports ‘slow’ PCI, there wouldn’t have been much sense in buying SATA-disks. Therefore, I have ordered a third hard disk of the given type. This will enable me to create 3x 78GB partitions which will result in a 156GB logical volume running on (SW-)RAID-5. On this I want to create a 120GB /home partition - this will be more than twice as much as I have today.

In addition, another 512MB of RAM and a USB-2.0/FireWire PCI card are coming soon.

For the server I bought two simple 20GB ATA disks, to be put on (SW-)RAID-1. This will carry the /home partition. As devil wished, one of the two SCSI-disks carrying the system crashed while building the two ATA disks in. So everything delays until the spare SCSI disk I ordered replaces the broken one.

You will love this one! This recipe for ‘Schinkenfleckerl’ (noodle casserole with ham and sour cream, scalloped with cheese) can also be used to create a variation of Spaghetti Carbonara.

You need (for 4 dishes):

• 2 jugs of sour cream (i.e. 500ml)
• 1-2 egg yolks
• 1 portion of herbal mixture (I always take the frozen ones)
• 1-2 tablespoonfuls of (possibly herbal) salt
• 2-5 cloves of garlic (Take five )
• 1 onion
• 20-25dag of ham
• 250g of noodles (either for a casserole or spaghetti)
• 250g of grated cheese (for scallopping the casserole)
• Parmesan
• Oregano
• 1 pan, 1 large pot, 1 large bowl, 1 casserole (if you do it the Schinkenfleckerl way).

Whenever sendmail has to deliver mails to other hosts which cannot be reached at that time, the messages are kept in the queue and are marked as “Deferred: Connection timed out”. Although the other hosts could be reached again and you want to tell sendmail to flush the mail queue, the command

sendmail -q -v

does not really try to reconnect to these hosts and still assumes that the connection timed out. The reason is that the hoststatus is cached, per default for a period of 30 minutes. Using

sendmail -OTimeout.hoststatus=0m -q -v

you can re-run the mail queue and force sendmail to reconnect to the hosts. You may want to define an alias for that, say, ‘sendmail-flush-timeouts’.

You can set further options in /etc/sendmail.cf.

Well, of course this isn’t his only recipe for spaghetti, but the first one I tried. This is for a spicy sauce with tomatoes, garlic, chili, olives, capers and anchovies.

You need (for 4 dishes):
500g noodles of your choice
800g of cut tomatoes or tomato sauce
3 cloves of garlic (Actually, I took 6)
2-3 grated dry chilies (Actually, I simply took a good portion of chili powder)
2 handful of cored dark olives
1 handful of capers
12 anchovy filets (Actually, I took 24, i.e. two small cans)
2 teaspoonfuls of oregano and
1 good handful of fresh basil (Fresh means ‘self-harvested’ from a plant, it really makes a difference, at least in the visual appearence)
